Project Overview

Visual Empire designed and delivered a vibrant Lunar New Year installation at Westfield Chatswood, elevating a long-standing partnership with the centre through a comprehensive transformation of its key activation spaces.

The central void installation was reimagined to create a dramatic visual focal point, featuring giant illuminated lanterns, bold vertical banners and bespoke Year of the Horse elements that reshaped the scale and impact of the space.

In Centre Court, the environment was transformed into an immersive celebration space anchored by rows of LED-illuminated cherry blossom wishing trees that created both atmosphere and visitor interaction. A striking red-carpet runway extended through the space, guiding visitors toward a dedicated photo moment complete with custom backdrop and seating, while the layout was engineered to accommodate live lion dance performances throughout the festival period.

Inspired by traditional Lunar New Year symbolism, the installation combined lantern elements, decorative lighting and cultural motifs to create a visually rich and engaging celebration environment throughout the centre.

The activation also introduced Visual Empire’s new illuminated tree range, featuring sculptural blossom trees designed to complement seasonal and cultural environments. The range is now available for purchase or hire, with custom trees and sets able to be created for seasonal displays, retail activations and public celebrations.

Together these elements created a cohesive, high-impact installation that balanced cultural authenticity, spectacle and practical functionality within a busy retail environment, transforming Westfield Chatswood into a vibrant Lunar New Year destination for the community.
